A little bit about us; who we are, what we do and why we do it!
Challenge South West was formed in 2003 by a group of off-road enthusiasts who wanted to move on from trialling, put something back into the sport and encourage newcomers into the world of 4×4 Winch Challenge events. We can justifiably claim to be one of the first organisations dedicated in this field, and we are still at the forefront of 4×4 Winch Challenge Events.
The Club was primarily started for off-road enthusiasts who are interested in off road winch events which test their vehicles and team, but now also include Trials, Terra Tagging, camping and social events. We try very hard not to intentionally destroy the environment or vehicles and set up events to cater for all skill levels from total novice to hardened professional. The tasks set are many and varied, some almost beyond even the most accomplished team but there’s always something for everybody.
Challenge South West mainly runs Off-Road Challenge Events, but also offer Club Camping Weekends, Training Days and Non-Competitive Events in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. You will see us at a number of Events & Shows as well. We have also assisted in running off road courses for Dealership Open Days and Main Ring Demonstrations at 4×4 shows. We have built a reputation for being extremely well organised in what we do but also with the emphasis on having fun. All our events are run under our own independent public liability insurance.
The Club was originally set up to encourage newcomers to the sport of Off Road Challenge. We offer advice and guidance from experienced club members to people new to the sport so you can learn how to do things both safely and effectively and get the best from your vehicle. You tell us on your entry form what your experience level is and the type of vehicle you drive, then we set up an event to suit you and your vehicle.
In 2008 we ran the first De-Cider Trophy event which rapidly gained popularity in the UK for being one of the top must do events on the Challenge Event scene. This is our single largest income provider which helps to fund our independent insurance which allows us the freedom to run our events the way we do. At the same time this event has also gained the us one of the best UK reputations for the way we look after our marshals team, with many marshals travelling from all over the UK just to help out.
We have events nearly every month which are listed on the events calendar with some competitors coming from all over the country for our club two day event and the De-Cider Trophy.
We would welcome you whether you wish to come along and have a chat and find out more about the club and what we do or marshal/compete at an event. Alternatively, get in touch and one of us will get back to you.
All vehicles used on our events must be four wheel drive but you can join the club without a vehicle. Winches and other off road paraphernalia are not compulsory but in most events (except Terra-Tag) you will find you will be stopped by the terrain quite early on without at least a winch.
